Eggplant, Michael Franks, The Art of Tea<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I first became aware of Michael Franks in 1998. Kevin bought the CD A Backwards Glance<\/em> as an introduction. (Probably before we got ADSL.) My life was improved the day my ears met his music for the first time. Yes, I know I said that about Metheny, but this was a different vibe. PM taught me a bit about jazz guitar. Mr. Franks is the jazz cat who wrote all these songs about love and romance that blew away my 23 year old mind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I first became aware of Michael Franks in 1998. Kevin bought the CD A Backwards Glance<\/em> as a way to introduce me to him. (Probably before we got ADSL.) My life was improved the day my ears met that music for the first time. Michael Franks’ lyrics reminded my 23-year-old self that to love is to be human, and also to learn from the human moments, both good and bad. The fact that he also had a song called “Soul Mate” didn’t hurt, either. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eggplant soon became a favorite of ours. The way he sings “mayonnaise” in this song is delightful to laugh about when things were going relatively well. The song always evokes memories of the playful times we had in the early days, as we were continuing to learn about each other. Sometimes it hurts to hear the song, but it’s kind of an “awfulsome” moment–I feel the pain of the loss and the joy of the memories at the same time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
