Business Environment Lamentations

I’ve got 2.5 hours left here before I can forget about this place until Monday. However, I’m pretty much “on call” until then. Meaning I get to sit here and give the illusion I actually have something to do. I realize this is an enviable position to be in. And totally a first world problem. However, I’m not one who likes to sit around until I’m given a command. This is legit employment, not servitude. Plus it’s good to vent so I don’t take this frustration out on anyone else.

In no particular order:

  1. Only part of the building can be climate controlled, so certain doors need to be closed. This is arduous for most everyone, resulting in me having to get up and shut the doors multiple times a day.
  2. Holding a phone to one’s ear is arduous, so speakerphone is the default method of communication.
  3. The toxic employee does not face any consequences for mistreating coworkers.
    • Attempts by multiple coworkers to point out the problematic behavior to the boss are ineffectual.
  4. My duties were handed over to a new hire, without adding any additional duties. This means what work I do have assigned is usually completed within the first quarter of the work day.
    • To wit, when I asked my boss what duties I would have in place of the ones I gave up, the response was “That’s a good question.”
  5. There are people assigned to the roles of IT and HR, yet I’m often asked to perform duties normally assigned to those roles.
    • Pointing out when IT is actually present to help fix problems is immediately ignored.
  6. I have to explain the same concept multiple times because

Why yes, I’ve looked for something else. Haven’t found anything.

Oh hey, it’s time for this beck and call girl to work again….
